A new study from Human Rights Watch finds that 179,000 nursing home residents are being needlessly given antipsychotic drugs, despite an FDA warning that they can increase the risk of death for older people with dementia. This is despite a multi-year government campaign to lower the use of antipsychotics in nursing facilities.
