He was 37 years old.<\/p>\n<p>News of his death <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.teamusa.org\/News\/2017\/May\/06\/Olympic-Family-Mourns-The-Loss-Of-Olympic-Champion-Bobsledder-Steven-Holcomb\">came<\/a> from a statement by the United States Olympic Committee, which gave no information about the cause. The Associated Press <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/719c6017157d4451a6064ce78f4205a1\/AP-source:-US-bobsledder-Steven-Holcomb,-37,-found-dead?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=AP_Sports\">said<\/a> foul play is not suspected. And The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibsf.org\/en\/news\/8-bobsleigh\/20124-the-ibsf-family-mourns-the-death-of-three-time-olympic-medallist-steven-holcomb\">said<\/a> Holcomb was found to have passed away in his sleep.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>At the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Holcomb helped steer the U.S. to its first Olympic bobsledding gold in more than 60 years, when he piloted a four-man team to victory. Four years later he won bronze in both two-man and four-man bobsled races.<\/p>\n<p>He also won 60 World Cup medals and 10 medals at world championships, <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/olympics\/2017\/05\/06\/olympic-champion-bobsledder-steven-holcomb-found-dead-37\/101377408\/\">reports<\/a> USA Today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Steve was a tremendous athlete and even better person, and his perseverance and achievements were an inspiration to us all,&#8221; said Scott Blackmun, USOC CEO.<\/p>\n<p>Holcomb wrote about his struggles with alcohol and depression in his autobiography, <em>But Now I See: My Journey from Blindness to Olympic Gold. <\/em>The book also outlined his 2007 suicide attempt with sleeping pills in a hotel room.<\/p>\n<aside>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<aside>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Holcomb had been diagnosed with keratoconus, a degenerative disease, which damaged his vision to the point where he believed his career was over.
