She said the organization will continue to operate normally and that it is not having trouble paying its bills.<\/p>\n<p>But while USA Gymnastics says bankruptcy gives it &#8220;the opportunity to reorganize,&#8221; it&#8217;s not clear how the filing is helpful to the victims and other athletes.<\/p>\n<p>In <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/usagym.org\/pages\/post.html?PostID=23015\">an online post<\/a> about the bankruptcy filing, USA Gymnastics said that survivors&#8217; claims against the organization are covered by insurance that was previously purchased and that the amount of that insurance is unaffected by the filing. &#8220;We believe that the Bankruptcy Court is the best forum in which to implement appropriate procedures to equitably resolve claims and allocate the insurance proceeds among claimants, allowing resolution more quickly than litigation filed in courts around the country,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<aside>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><!-- END ID=\"RES673878711\" CLASS=\"BUCKETWRAP INTERNALLINK INSETTWOCOLUMN INSET2COL \" --><\/p>\n<p>But as <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em> <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/usa-gymnastics-files-for-bankruptcy-1544041847?mod=hp_lead_pos2\">explained<\/a>, the filing &#8220;will put an automatic stop\u2014perhaps permanently\u2014to depositions and discovery related to USA Gymnastics in lawsuits filed by Mr. Nassar&#8217;s victims.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The U.S. women&#8217;s team, led by superstar Simone Biles, <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/olympics.nbcsports.com\/2018\/10\/30\/2018-gymnastics-world-championships-results\/\">was dominant<\/a> at the recent World Championships. (The men&#8217;s team took fourth.) But the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo are fast approaching, and the organization&#8217;s leadership has been in persistent disarray since Nassar was arrested in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>USA Gymnastics has cycled through three CEOs in less than two years; one of them, Steve Penny, <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/10\/18\/658356638\/former-usa-gymnastics-president-arrested-for-tampering-with-nassar-evidence\">was arrested<\/a> in October over allegations that he tampered with evidence related to a Nassar investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the U.S. Olympic Committee took preliminary steps <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/11\/05\/664578266\/usa-gymnastics-dumped-as-organizers-of-olympic-athletes-after-sexual-abuse-scand\">to revoke <\/a>USA Gymnastics&#8217; status as the sport&#8217;s governing body.
