The 29-year-old British woman was the youngest participant in the annual <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/goldengloberace.com\/ggr\/\">Golden Globe Race<\/a> which sends sailors from the coast of France around the earth and back to the same port. Or at least that&#8217;s the plan. <\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday morning, Goodall was 2,000 miles west of South America when her boat <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/susiegoodall.co.uk\/news\/2018\/12\/05\/susie-goodall-racing-official-statement\/?fbclid=IwAR0tlHUFeztEDPmVq48h5zv5fRy4S413ogxJTrx0bHk3SqCkyTPsyj0uKN8\">flipped<\/a> in heavy wind, broke its mast and knocked her temporarily  unconscious. As NPR <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/09\/24\/651037335\/sailor-rescued-at-sea-after-dismasting-during-round-the-world-race\">reported<\/a>, an accident in the Indian Ocean in September forced the evacuation of a naval commander; skippers from <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/goldengloberace.com\/operations-begin-to-rescue-loic-lepage\/\">France<\/a> and <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.ie\/sport\/3194794\/hero-irish-sailor-gregor-mcguckin-australia\/\">Ireland<\/a> have also had to be rescued. <\/p>\n<p>In a post from Nov. 30 titled &#8220;Half way round the world,&#8221; Goodall <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/susiegoodall.co.uk\/news\/2018\/11\/30\/half-way-round-the-world\/\">wrote<\/a> about how challenging the experience had been at that point as she faced fierce seas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To say I&#8217;d had enough by this point is an understatement. They were the hardest and loneliest days I&#8217;ve ever had. All I wanted was a break from it.
