The NCAA announced on Tuesday that it would open the door<\/a> for college athletes to begin profiting from their names, images and likenesses \u201cin a manner consistent with the collegiate model.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael Drake, chair of the NCAA Board of Directors, released a statement<\/a>, saying \u201cwe must embrace change to provide the best possible experience for college athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The unanimous decision to modify those rules came after lawmakers from several states pressured<\/a> the NCAA.<\/p>\n
