Because no one should spend all their time streaming the new season<\/a> of Big Mouth.<\/p>\n

1. “Basketball Meditation” by the late, great Wanda Coleman, in Poetry Magazine<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

Invariably, I am alone except for the occasional college student. We stay within ourselves, immersed, and never speak—the sounds of distant traffic pierced by the thumps and grunts of our basketballs. When my body goes automatic, my mind is freed to wander, and when I go back to the car, still dripping, I find my notebook and discover what the poem has written.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

2. “70-Year-Old's Commitment to Tennis, Fitness Is Inspiring to All” by Raj Tawney, in Sports Illustrated<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

Unfortunately, for my historically un-athletic self, I hadn’t been very interested in sports as a teenager, nor did I care much for committing to a healthy diet. But as I reached my twenties, I noticed how my dad continued to naturally age in form and build yet hadn’t weakened in physical fitness or even his attitude toward life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

3. “How eBird Changed Birding Forever” by Jessie Williamson, in Outside<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

“Anything we can do to supercharge an interest in nature is a worthwhile goal unto itself,” says eBird’s Iliff. “I don’t think we’re going to have people who are willing to vote for climate change or preservation of public lands or endangered species, or really care about the world around us, without a level of public engagement.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
