This January, he became <a class=\"colorbox\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2016\/01\/22\/463944853\/roger-federer-becomes-first-man-to-win-300-grand-slam-matches\">the first male tennis player<\/a> to win 300 Grand Slam matches.<\/p>\n<p>He had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in early February \u2014 the first operation of his career. The injury that caused it didn&#8217;t come on the court.
